"I've recently been using V-spot to 'treat' chronic vaginal bacterial imbalance which I've suffered from for years. GPs and gynaecologists just didn't seem to know what to do, other than recommend antibiotics, vaginal gels, taking double dose oral probiotics and cotton underwear! Lactobacillus crispatus

  • Lactobacillus crispatus 2 billion CFU – the most dominant species of a healthy vaginal microbiome.
  • L. crispatus is present in vaginas of 65% of women universally.
  • It has a high level of lactic acid production. Healthy vagina has a pH value of 3.8-4.5.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus

Lactobacillus gasseri

Supporting ingredients

  • Packed with healthy supporting ingredients that will preserve viability of probiotic bugs, support their targeted action, and are gentle on vaginal wall tissue.
  • Skim milk (which contains lactose) is an excellent food source for probiotics and provide much needed support for the growth of probiotic live organisms when they need it the most. Skim milk was shown to have a highly protective effect on probiotic species in preserving them over shelf-life at room temperature.
  • Incidental ingredients (ingredients added to the probiotic organisms during their manufacturing process and cannot be separated from the probiotic blend): maltodextrin, sodium ascorbate and sucrose.
  • Other supporting ingredients (added during manufacturing process of v-spot probiotic): Non-fat milk, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicone anhydrous and maltose (in traces).

Direction for use

DO NOT TAKE ORALLY

With clean hands, insert 1 v-spot probiotic into the vagina at bedtime daily, for 5-10 days, or as directed by your health practitioner.

If required, wet capsule before use and insert straight away (this may not be necessary).

Expect some discharge the next day but understand that this is normal.

You should always insert after you have fully emptied your bladder, especially after sexual intercourse.

For best results, avoid using the product just before or during your period.

The vaginal microbiome

The vaginal microbiome varies both between individuals and ethnic groups.

Healthy

  • Lactobacillus crispatus

    present in vaginas of 65% of women universally (3). It sticks well to vaginal walls and creates stable colonies. It has a high level of lactic acid production. Healthy vagina has a pH value of 3.8-4.5.

  • Lactobacillus gasseri

    present in vaginas in more than 40% of women universally (3) and is second in command healthy population in the vagina creating stable colonies.

  • Lactobacillus jensenii

    is another frequently detected good bacteria in a healthy vagina. This Lactobacillus species is not on the list of permitted ingredients for use in medical products in Australia.

Pathogen / Transitional

  • Lactobacillus iners

    is associated with both normal and abnormal microflora. It either adapts well to the conditions associated with BV (like increased pH) or it is more resistant to certain factors that diminish other Lactobacillus species. It has been described by scientists as a ‘transitional’ species, which means its dominance may indicate that vaginal microbiome is on a way to get disrupted and imbalanced.

  • Gardnerella vaginalis

    is a pathogenic bacteria. The rise of its colonies indicates that the balance in the vaginal microbiome is disrupted and unstable. The overgrowth and dominance of this bacteria is one of the main signs of bacterial vaginosis or BV.

  • Candida albicans

    is a fungus present in the vaginal microbiome in small quantities. Its overgrowth causes vaginal yeast infections.

  • The vaginal microbiome also contains non-lactobacillus bacterial species. Their dominance may be normal in some ethnic groups, but could also be a sign of an unhealthy vaginal microbiome (3).
